Travie and I noticed that all the kids were drinking soda from plastic bags, so we went to a street stall by the high school, ordered a Mountain Dew in a bag, and asked what it was all about…
Turns out they put the drink in a bag becasue the stores can make money by returning the glass bottles. Makes sense. Maybe we shout serve drinks in bags back home? Here’s Trav with his drink and corn and a new tune…

I was shocked to know that y’all are amazed by this ’soda in a bag’ thing. We’ve been doing this for a very long time now.
The soda companies also ’sell’ the bottles, see. For instance, when you open up a store, you buy a bunch of bottles from the soda companies. Say a dozen cases of Coke. You pay for the bottles AND the sodas. Then when you’re all out, you order. You trade in your dozen cases of empty Coke bottles and you pay only for the sodas. Big save come in.
When we have to buy those big bottles of soda, we have to bring along an empty bottle on our way to the store and get a minus on the price of the drink. If we don’t have a bottle, we just leave a deposit and get back our money once we return the empty bottles.
I thought we weren’t the only place that does this. I honestly thought this was a common practice.
It’s not entirely that of a good thing because we use a lot of plastic for the bag and the straw. My friends and I drink our sodas ‘on the spot’ right by the store and then just give them back the bottles. I think this is much better.
Thanks for doing this adventure and opening all our eyes to the truth. It breaks my heart to know how some of my fellow Filipinos belong to the lowest low of life. I’ve done some charity work myself, I just don’t have enough time to squeeze in my college time to be a great advocate of GK777. It enlightens me how many people truly care for the underdogs.
